Aqua Barrier Pipeline Projects and Construction

ABSTRACT: HSI Services, Inc. is the prime manufacturer of the Aqua-Barrier® water-inflated dam – an engineer certified, highly reusable patented cofferdam system. We will be reviewing the history of HSI Services and their 26 years in existence followed by an overview of historical damming methods. An in-depth explanation of the Aqua-Barrier® will be given along with many of the applications and benefits of the system. Lastly, we will cover the services and support that HSI Services provides to all Aqua-Barrier clients.


BIO: Darren Miller received a Liberal Arts degree in 1998. He started his career under Reef Industries in a Business Development position; he was an essential piece of the company for 7 years. Darren spent countless of hours researching and developing the Aqua-Barrier® water-inflated dam. The Aqua-Barrier® was created in 1996 and has since then received US Patent #9,353,496 in 2015 for the end pipe-loops which are now an integral part of the cofferdam design. The Aqua-Barrier® system received a registered trademark in 2006 and is now part of a international distribution network. Darren Miller is continuously working on research and development to further improve the Aqua-Barrier and various other products.

ABSTRACT:  The use of post tension tendons as the primary reinforcement for ground supported foundations has significantly increased in the last 5 years. The International Code Council (ICC) has adopted the consensus-based documents published by the Post Tension Institute (PTI) for foundation design. This presentation will provide historical and current information on the documents that are applicable to post tensioned slabs.


BIO: Harvey Nethken graduated from L.S.U. with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1983. He is a licensed engineer in Louisiana and 15 other states. His career began with the design of concrete building components with a specialty in foundations and horizontal elements. Harvey became a charter employee and partner of Tech-Con Systems, Inc. a post tension tendon manufacturer which began in the early '90s.  As a Tech-Con Systems representative, he has actively participated in various technical and executive committees of the Post Tension Institute.  Harvey is currently Principal in Charge of Acadian Structural Solutions.
