Concrete Parking Lots and Best Practices for Jointed Concrete Pavements
Presented by Ms. Nancy Beltran and Mr. Randy Bowers with Cement Council of Texas
BIO: Nancy Beltran is the Director of Concrete Pavements for the Cement Council of Texas (CCT), with research experience in the area of concrete pavement analysis and finite element modeling. Nancy joined CCT in August of 2019, and she is responsible for expanding market share for use of cement in all concrete paving applications by offering sustainable and resilient concrete solutions to common problems related to the design, construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of concrete pavements. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During her graduate studies, Nancy worked on a project related to the mechanistic analysis of continuously reinforced and jointed concrete pavements. Currently, she is a member and past president of the ACI Central Texas Chapter and serves as voting member on the ACI 327 Roller-Compacted Concrete Pavements Committee and as associate member in the ACI 330 Parking Lots Committee. She is also a young member for the Transportation Research Board (TRB) - Standing Committee on Design and Rehabilitation of Concrete Pavements (AKP20).
Randy Bowers is the Director of Cement Stabilization for the Cement Council of Texas. He is a professional engineer with 35 years of service at TxDOT, where he served as Area Engineer in Tarrant County and Assistant Director of Maintenance for the Fort Worth District. While in the Johnson County Area Office, he served as the Area Engineer and Assistant Area Engineer where he constructed numerous cement stabilized pavements. Previously as a planning/design engineer, he directed analysis and testing and submitted numerous pavement design reports and recommendations for the Fort Worth District Randy now focuses on offering (at no cost) concrete and cement related solutions and support for end users.
ABSTRACT: This two-part presentation will cover essential topics in the design and construction of concrete parking lots and best practices for jointed concrete pavements. The first session will focus on the key design and construction considerations for concrete parking lots, including industrial facilities. The second session will delve into best practices for jointed concrete pavements, emphasizing proper joint design, placement, and maintenance to enhance pavement performance and longevity. Together, these presentations provide a comprehensive overview for engineers and contractors involved in concrete pavement projects.
